February Update

Birthday Trips

We continue to provide each of the children at the Odinkovka and Tabachnaya orphanages with birthday trips and birthday gifts. Everyone that sponsors a child through their monthly standing order will receive additional information about these trips, as well as individual photos of their sponsored child.

One of the Dnipro Appeal birthday trips in Febraury (for the Odinkovka orphanage) involved a trip to the cinema to see the film Avatar. Ira informed us immediately after the trip that the kids had never been so excited about a film before and it had created a bit of a buzz back at the orphanage.

As the film had received such rave reviews, and the kids had been so excited about it, the Dnipro Appeal decided to fund cinema trips for ALL the kids at the Odinkovka and Tabachnaya orphanages.

Cinema Trips

Firstly the Tabachnaya kids and they were taken to the cinema for the film. Unfortunately the weather was pretty poor the day that they went so the only photo that Ira was able to get was a group photo inside the cinema (apologies to individual child sponsors).

More individualised photos of the Odinkovka kids on their cinema trip will be emailed out to child sponsors in the coming week.

Winter Wellies

As with Scotland, Ukraine was also suffering from an extended winter during February. As a result the kids were finding that their footwear was struggling to cope and Ira was a bit concerned that the Odinkovka kids were going to end up with a shortened life for their school shoes.

We were more than happy to help out and, with some financial help from Peter Chernyshov at the Carlsberg owned Slavutich Brewery, purchased some wellie boots for the Odinkovka Kids.

Of course the black boots were fine for the boys but Ira ensured that the girls were presented with something a little more colourful. Ira also purchased some thick winter socks to go with the boots.

Predniprovsk TB Sanatorium, School Items and Winter Clothes

We have had a request for assistance with some clothing for the kids and some schooling items for the new school term at the Predniprovsk TB Sanatorium. Ira is currently out and about sourcing t-shirts and slippers for the most needy of the children and has also put in the orders for the stationery items needed for the schooling. There will hopefully be an update and some photos ready by the time the next update goes out.
