Nastya Surgery Update

Last week Nastya was moved from Kharkov hospital to a hospital in Dnipropetrovsk. It was quite an ordeal for Nastya and Ira has informed us that the move was very painful and very stressful but at least it is over now and she is closer to the people she knows.

As Nastya has such a bubbly personality the staff were quite sorry to see her leave and gave her a good send off.

Dnipro Kids has funded new crutches for Nastya to use whilst she is recovering from her operation as well as providing all the necessary antibiotics and pain killers required.

As a thank you, Ira had decided to present the chief surgeon and his colleague with fleece tops. These were kindly been donated by Hibernian Football Club and were included in the last Dnipro Kids Baby Centre consignment of clothing that was recently shipped over to Ukraine. This idea of Ira’s might not sit as kindly with the Aberdeen supporting sponsors amongst us, but the two surgeons were very grateful none the less.

Nastya could not have wished for a better team to take care of her, and the chief surgeon (who I met personally on my last visit) has been excellent. He once again talked through everything in great detail with Ira and was even kind enough to produce the “before” and “after” x-rays of the operation for Ira to photograph and forward on to everyone back in Scotland.

You can see from the photos on the recent update how badly disjointed her hip was and how much work was actually involved in re-locating the hip. I dread to think how bad things could have got if it had been left untreated.

We will of course be keeping you updated on how Nastya is progressing over the coming months.

Yours,
Steven Carr,
Dnipro Appeal Committee.
