NewsWhere's The Fire? The Dnipro Appeal would like to say a huge thank you to fireman Steven Nicole for a donation of £280 which he achieved with a sponsored run in the Edinburgh Forthside Half Marathon. The run, which took place on Sunday the 1st of April, started at Edinburgh's Ocean Terminal, with runners heading up through Granton and as far as Crammond before turning back and taking the shore-front route back to the Ocean Terminal.Steven's training for the event started back in mid January where he utilised any spare time running round the forecourt of his Edinburgh Airport based Fire Station. He progressed through the weeks with regular runs and by late March he was up to 10 mile runs every other day. Steven tells us that the day of the race was blessed with good weather but with nearly 3,000 runners the start was very slow, as the runners took time to find their preferred pace. Steven found the run out towards Crammond reasonably comfortable but discovered that the turn at Crammond saw him doing the shore route into a brisk breeze, which certainly took its toll on the runners as they returned to the Ocean Terminal. ![]() Nevertheless Steven managed to complete the course in a commendable 1 hour and 49 minutes and he would like to thank everyone at BAA and his friends, especially those from the Windsor Buffet on Elm Row, for their support and generous donations. Steven tells us his biggest disappointment was that Gail and his daughter Sophie got a bit lost in the crowds and never managed to see him cross the line. Never mind Steven, there's always next year!! |
